Mark Cuban’s Triumphant Return to Reality TV: Shark Tank

Mark Cuban 300x200 Mark Cuban’s Triumphant Return to Reality TV: Shark TankDallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is just a regular guy, who became an all-American entrepreneur. He’s also the latest addition to Shark Tank Season Two, he just loves seeing what the contestants bring to the table. He’s having a blast on the show and finds it rewarding to help somebody reach toward their dreams.

He wants you to know that despite the economy the American dream is alive and well. Seven years ago Mark had his own Apprentice-style show called The Benefactor on ABC, but negotiating and interacting with his fellow sharks showcases his surprising tactics as a strong strategic partner and deal maker.

Initially Cuban started MicroSolutions, Inc., a software reseller, and then sold it to CompuServe in 1990 for $6 million. As a millionaire he wanted to take his passion for basketball and business to another level. He believes that a smart, focused and successful salesperson will gear up and do the homework necessary to find his next customer. And that is exactly what he did. He became a billionaire because he took small ideas and made them big.

Mark Cuban and his partner Todd Wagner started Broadcast.com in 1995 because they wanted to hear Indiana University basketball games in Dallas. Four years later, they sold the company to Yahoo in a deal valued at $5.7 billion. He’s also the owner of Dallas Mavericks and his star-filled NBA team is his prize possession. Best known for his antics on and off the court he knows that losing is not an option.

Mark Cuban on pitching: “I try to sell good products and services and to have ideas that I hope will be successful.” If the person doesn’t want to buy it he wants to know the reason. “Would you mind sharing with me what you didn’t like about the product or why you like the product you chose?” he asks. If he a good counter to their objection(s), he will let it fly and see what happens. If they say no, he moves on. “The last person didn’t get it. That is their problem. Not yours.” says Cuban. Which is why when comes to pitching potential investors he knows exactly what to look for. He’s pitched ideas himself and has hears pitches from budding entrepreneurs every day. ABC’s Shark Tank, like CBC’s Dragon’s Den, is the reality series in which small-business entrepreneurs try to persuade a group high-profile businesspeople, to invest in their companies in hopes of turning them into bigger businesses.

Cuban is the sixth shark who’s alternating with comedian Jeff Foxworthy and joins forces with regulars Barbara Corcoran, a New York real-estate mogul; Kevin Harrington, chairman of infomercial company TVGoods; Robert Herjavec, cyber-security provider the Herjavec Group; Daymond John, founder of sportswear company FUBU; and Kevin O’Leary, who developed Softkey Software Products and eventually sold it to Mattel for $3.7 billion. He is currently the founder of O’Leary Funds a mutual-fund company.

Cuban believes in the entrepreneurs, “This is your life’s dream, this is something you’ve put your heart and soul into, told all your friends, all your family, probably asked them for money to invest in you. You’re going to do whatever it takes to be successful, and you’re going to have an opportunity, in front of these sharks, to make it happen.”

He believes the key for entrepreneurs to get the deal is to have enough confidence in your business to make that presentation. Those who are successful have a great idea, are fully committed to their business, and have the numbers to back it up.

Benefits of Ethnic Marketing: Growth, Untapped Market Segments & Increased Profitability

ethnic marketing 300x119 Benefits of Ethnic Marketing: Growth, Untapped Market Segments & Increased ProfitabilityThe face of Canada has changed dramatically over the last 20 years. So has the benefits of ethnic marketing. Statistics Canada reports more than 200 ethnicities are now represented in this wonderful country we know as Canada. Immigration accounts for more than 50% of our population’s growth, and will more than likely double by 2025. What’s the most amazing thing I learned when researching this topic? That entrepreneurs should be pitching the product and service to ethnic markets, if not, your competitors will. On the whole, ethnic markets can represent growth, untapped market segments, and increased profitability.

It has been difficult for companies to find successful ways to target to the various ethnic groups found in Canada. The United Way of Greater Toronto fundraising initiatives city wide in 2000 proved dismal to the diverse multicultural groups within the city.  Six years ago fundraising efforts raised anywhere from $20,000 – $25,000 from seven or eight communities. Three prominent groups were targeted instead and last year raised about $700,000 – a 300% increase within a six-year period.

Companies actually hire directors of ethnic markets now, and the message is about communicating to the changing Canadian market, the most effective ways to incorporate a more diverse approach to market your brand.

Today’s consumers are far more sophisticated, have better educations, and have increased spending power than the immigrants of years gone by. Marketers understand the ethnicity of their customers, embrace their customs, and tap into their sensitivities.

Ethnicity is a multidimensional expression of identity that includes race, origin or ancestry, language or religion. Ethnicities are influenced by countless variables some of which include: immigration, blending, and intermarriage, which very often create a strength of ethnic identification. Often associated with a culture are customs and beliefs and sometimes dress and eating habits. A survey conducted in 2002 by Statistics Canada regarding ethnic diversity reveals that three-quarters of Canadians say they are interested in learning more about their ancestry and are familiar with their heritage.

Solutions Research Group conducted a study that examined six major population groups in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. The study included Canadians of Chinese, South Asian, West Asian, Hispanic, Black and Italian backgrounds. A total of 3,000 respondents (age 15+) were interviewed in 9 languages: English, French, Cantonese, Mandarin, Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Spanish and Italian. The results were astonishing: among the most vital of media is the Internet with 88% usage. Chinese Canadians are active users spending 2.4 hours/day, followed by TV then radio. Although less time is spent watching TV, ethnic Canadians are more likely than the market benchmark to have digital cable or satellite TV (41% vs. 39%). Black and Chinese Canadians lead on this measure (47% and 44%, respectively).

More than half (52%) of the ethnic groups surveyed agree with the statement: “I rarely see advertising messages intended for me,” suggesting a significant lost opportunity. The trick is to go beyond the status quo, to dig deeper, and the solutions will be found.

Pay attention to the three C’s: caution, care and commitment.

Caution
An ethnic market is really comprised of dozens of smaller, distinct segments. What sells in the Southeast Asian community may not sell to the Chinese community. If referring to China, do you target Hong Kong or Taiwan? Marketers must learn to identify communities and focus directly on those. Ethnic identity has little to do with how people buy gas and car repairs. However, it has plenty to do with which groceries or books they buy.

Care
Decisions should be made to pursue different ethnic communities, and along side comes the care that should be taken to learn about them. The size of the market is considered and how you, the marketer, are going to capture it. Direct marketing techniques are the best means for personalizing your message. Companies may already own the information needed to determine the approach.

Example: Financial institutions know where their clients send money. Companies that capture this kind of data (through data mining) can use it to tailor their product and services to the consumer.

Purchase subscriber lists to ethnic newspapers or membership rolls of ethnic associations. Determining your target audience becomes easy, the next task… to craft the marketing materials in the language they understand.

Commitment
A recent survey of 150 marketers found that only 40% did back-end analysis of their direct marketing programs on a consistent basis. The costs associated to discovering this type of information is expensive. What will be your ROI? Companies more and more are jumping on the ethnic bandwagon. Just go to any Wal-Mart Super Centre and view how their food products are representative of the various ethnicities, and how their ways of “giving back” actually enhance the communities they serve. Last year, the Salvation Army received a $100,000 donation from them. After all, their motto “Wal-Mart Canada is committed to making a difference in the lives of Canadians,” once again, rings true.

Mindset of a Millionaire

Millionaire Mindset 300x150 Mindset of a Millionaire There have been endless articles written about the “mindset of a millionaire.” I could just spend weeks researching all the theories, reading all the success stories, and getting all fired up about the endless possibilities. So what exactly is this quality, and why is it so heavily sought after?

Actually the concept is incredibly simple and I learned about it in WMI. There are seven easy-to-follow steps – the ingredients are building blocks and the recipe for your success. The instability of the economy has caused many to lose their jobs in corporate America and start their own home-based businesses. It does not matter about your background, your education, your career or your starting point on the entrepreneurial ladder. What matters is that you start somewhere. If you decide follow these steps to achieve the millionaire mindset you will surely set yourself on the path to riches.

1. Self-Belief

It’s not so much about having the potential, what sets people apart is the belief in oneself to achieve greatness. You can achieve this by telling yourself you can do it. Write it on a post-it note, write it on the wall, do whatever it takes to keep reminding yourself – and never stop believing it.

2. The Idea

When you start with an idea, a dream, or a vision. You need to  write it down and not just think about it.

3. Make a Plan

What good is a plan if you don’t set goals? Short-term goals are steps you take by the end of the day or the end of the week. Medium term goals and long term goals need also to be a part of the equation and should be specific and realistic. It’s best to write them down and devised a timeframe to accomplish them. It’s crucial to review them on a regular basis. Many small steps equate to big successes.

4. Take Action

Many think that developing your millionaire mindset is about reading, learning, or goal setting. Rather, taking action and jumping in, and get your hands dirty are practical suggestions. Over the years you may have met many people who think about becoming rich. They toss around ideas but then fail to follow through with solid, tangible action. WMI’s m1 program is a unique, holistic, step-by-step educational process will connect you with the world’s greatest thinkers of finance, wellness, and personal development. With the time tested secrets you’ll learn with this program will change your life for the better, but only if you’re willing to let go of excuses that will eliminate your success. If you make an honest effort to apply them you will give 1% each day you will be living life at a very different level, 100 days from now. Every day your actions will move you in the right direction – towards your goals.

5. Failure is not an option

Remember the old adage “If at first you don’t succeed try, try again”. In working towards your goals you are likely to encounter failure, setbacks, disappointment and rejection. What are the secrets to having the millionaire mindset? Those with the “mindset” take a look at the setbacks, and learn from them. But they also get back on their feet again. The millionaire mindset is a positive mindset. What goes without saying: to achieve this mindset you must first believe in yourself. You have the right to be successful.

6. Passion

Do you know what will drive you to achieve greatness? Passion! Passion for your product, for your business, for your idea and for the path you are on. When you change your situation, it will change your life. It’s not about having that 9-5 grind, or even about working to live, or being in a dull job, day in and day out in the office. When YOU take control of your destiny and believe it, get excited about it, you will feel the passion!

7. Grow and Learn

The secret to those who have the millionaire mindset is that they associate with others who have the same mindset… the ones who are on the same road to riches that they are. People who are open to ideas, suggestions and feedback are the ones you’ll best learn from. There are many who have come before you and are willing to share their success.

Student Credit Card Debt Solutions

student credit card debt solutions 300x156 Student Credit Card Debt SolutionsCredit cards are designed to make our lives as students easier. I don’t want to state the obvious but many students don’t pay for items in cash because credit cards are accepted as one the primary modes of payment in most colleges. There’s a certain mentality around credit cards: when you’re low on cash you can just buy now and pay later and you need only pay a minimum amount every month. Students are tempted to use credit cards for university fees, transportation, clothing and living expenses, food and entertainment, and emergency medical needs. However, due to their ease of use, and the concept of minimum monthly payments, many American students are now deep in debt and in a number of instances, and many feel it’s too late for them to do anything about it. The best news out there is that student credit card debt solutions are available, and there’s an education that’s waiting for you, and it’s found in WMI today.

You see, if you truly want to understand about credit card debt, and most important of all how to get out of it, you need to know about Peter Bielagus’ experiences. He’s one of the many experts at Wealth Masters International. He became a top authority on money management for young America the hard way – by first falling deep into credit card debt himself. Peter entered college with several thousand dollars in savings but within 6 months he found himself $5,000 in credit card debt.

Peter, like many other students, was tempted by what the credit card companies were offering: no annual fee, Reward cards and competitive Low Rate cards. Like many students he knew how to buy things on credit, but didn’t have a clue how to pay the money back. Determined to dig his way out of debt, Peter began learning about personal finance, reading over 300 books on the subject, interviewing experts and attending seminars. By graduation, Peter’s cards were clean and he was on his way to financial freedom.

Demystifying Personal Finance

“Personal finance is all about achieving your goals. When I take the definition personal finance and chop it up I get the word ‘personal’ and I get the word ‘finance.’ The word ‘personal’ means relating to you. The word ‘finance’ means to pay for. Pay for those things relating to you.” People need money for their own personal goals. From a personal finance perspective people need to ask the question, why am I doing any of this? Why do I need more money, why should I check my credit report? Why bother researching insurance or any of that?” says Peter.

A good example of a personal goal upon finishing college is to go to graduate school. It’s best, he says to make your goals as specific and measurable and tie them to a timeline. But for some a personal goal could include buying a house, getting married, buying a car, the common denominator involves getting in debt to achieve it.

Some of the money mistakes that people make are early on in their financial lives. In your twenties, there is a lot of debt outstanding. When you are going to college, your lifetime earning is at its lowest point. It is the time when students have been taking on so much debt, and they really have the income to back it up. Peter tells people that in that chunk of time when your financial life is just getting started, for most people legally your financial life starts when you turn 18. For many what they need to do is pay very close attention to how much money that they are borrowing.

Too much credit card debt is something that Peter sees happen to college students all too often. He should know he travels around the country talking to students about it all the time. Even though the rules on most college campuses have banned credit card companies and the government has actually tightened the rules on how they can market to college students, students still end up getting credit cards and they end up getting in over their heads.

Many who have a credit card get into the habit of always pulling it out at the wrong time, and buying something that they really don’t need. The solution is to limit that temptation and get into the habit of just not carrying your credit card around. If you are going to go out on a Saturday night, don’t carry your card with you. Just leave it at home and only spend the cash that is in your pocket.

Peter’s mission is to help people take charge of their financial lives and it spawned out of his own personal credit card debt disaster. “I, like most American high school students went through high school without knowing anything about personal finance. I got little tips here and there of save your money or be careful of credit cards. All I ever really received was general information. When I got to college this was little while ago, back then credit card companies were allowed to market very aggressively to college students, and every day that I would walk through the student union there would be 5 or 6 tables of different credit card companies set up and as you walk by they would say hey if you just sign up for this credit card we will give you any free prize you want on this table. That could have been a frisbee or a coffee mug or two free movie tickets, or whatever it was.” says Peter.

Within about 6 months he had a total of 8 credit cards, and was able to borrow $40,000. At the time he had part time job making minimum wage, but also in $5,000 worth of credit card debt in his first year of college. The tip of the iceberg was when the bill came from Chase Manhattan credit card and he couldn’t even make the minimum payment and didn’t know what that even meant.

Like many who are in debt they don’t know how bad it is. The problem was how to pay back the debt. He picked up a personal finance book, because he knew he had to do something. He didn’t even know what his problem was in the financial world. He just knew that he had one.

Reading the personal finance book made Peter realize two things, first how much he didn’t know about it and second how much potential somebody his age (19 years old at the time) had if they just focused a little bit on their financial life. Reading and thinking about the book made Peter realize just how many other people all over the world regardless of the country were in the exact same situation as he was in.

Many parents don’t know about personal finance and pass on their spending habits on to their children unknowingly. Peter’s realization to help young people talk about their finances and educate them about personal finance became his focus. Peter said “I really made the disaster in my life, my financial life, I really turned that into my mission.”

There is an affordable solution that addresses the issues of wealth, health and wisdom it’s found in WMI.  The amazing mentors and coaches there can show you a brighter future one that is true to yourself, and your family. America’s Most Reputable Companies

"amazon.comAccording to the sixth annual list of the 150 Most Reputable Companies in America Amazon.com ranked #1. Amazon found itself at top of the list in the US this year, crushing their competition once again. The study was conducted through Reputation Institute in partnership with Forbes Media. Just how do you determine what makes up a reputable company? The US RepTrakTM Pulse Study measures trust, esteem, admiration, and good feelings consumers have towards the largest 150 companies based on revenue. The results of the study were analyzed and included nearly 33,000 online consumer responses that were taken between January and February, 2011.

Here are the top 10 companies:

1. Amazon.com (Retail – General)

2. Kraft Foods (Food – Manufacturing)

3. Johnson & Johnson (Consumer Products)

4. 3M (Industrial Products)

5. Kellogg’s (Food – Manufacturing)

6. UPS (Transport & Logistics)

7. FedEx (Transport & Logistics)

8. Sara Lee (Food – Manufacturing)

9. Google (Information & Media)

10. Walt Disney Company (Information & Media)

I believe that Jeff Bezos, the pioneer retailer on the world wide web, caught the wave at the right time. He has proven that you can make a fortune by convincing people to rethink the way they shop. Amazon was created in the Spring of 1994, the catalyst for the company’s inception was based on his research done on annual growth of internet usage. He launched amazon.com is June of 1995, and never looked back.

Amazon earned first place ranking by providing value to users, staying ahead of the curve in technology and innovation and responding quickly and ethically to scandals. Jeff declares, “We spend money only in areas where it matters to our customers.” Amazon.com has truly evolved from being earth’s biggest bookstore to include not only millions of books, but music, and movies, auto parts, toys, electronics, home furnishings, apparel, health and beauty aids, prescription drugs, and groceries. Additionally, shoppers can download e-books, games, MP3s, and films to their computers or handheld devices.

Amazon’s own portable reader, the Kindle was released before the iPad, but it was Bezos who examined what route to take with the rapidly expanding e-reader market. Amazon also offers products and services, such as self-publishing, online advertising, e-commerce platform, and a co-branded credit card.

What do I believe are the keys to amazon.com’s success? What’s more important how can we as entrepreneurs possibly incorporate those things into our business?

1. The first key to their sales success is amazon.com’s review system is one of the things that makes them so successful. This actively encourages people who have purchased from them to leave reviews. The instant testimonials tend to be quite upfront and honest. The prospect then has the choice to make the appropriate buying decision. This is a powerful tool that can significantly improve your sales.

2. The next key to their sales success is the “Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought” section. Cross selling plays an enormous role in this site. The easiest sale is the one that happens just after the customer makes the first one. The reason this works is that a person’s actions tend to be consistent their previous action. When you get the prospect to make that initial buying decision, they are much more likely to continue to buy from you.

Amazon.com is the story of one man, Jeff Bezos who set his sights on one idea: to have great products and change the way business is done.  He found ways to continually reinvent the company, and change the way books are purchased. He continues to see opportunities that others don’t. And I can’t say enough good things about that.

When you really look at the big picture he shared the company’s powerful ecommerce platform with others retailers. By doing so he allowed independent authors who did not have the means to promote, market or sell their books instant access to a channel of distribution with a reach that is world-wide.

His entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well and has created a current of good fortune. It’s because Jeff Bezos thinks differently. And that’s why Amazon.com is one of the most recognizable brands in the world.

The best news that’s out there today: in WMI we learn to focus on the real definition of abundance… a life-altering mindset that mandates personal prosperity based in “what you think about you bring about”… Many entrepreneurs (or ones that would like to be) are looking for a time-tested success vehicle that supports their internal value system in addition to helping them generate material wealth.

There is an affordable solution that addresses the issues of being both a top earner and entrepreneur and it’s found in WMI. What It Means to Be Woman

lauren velez 239x300 What It Means to Be WomanMen and women are free to choose a life based on their passions – whatever they might be. So just what it means to be a woman making these types of decisions right now requires some serious thought. Let’s look for just a moment at how far we have come.

Women have caused and experienced unprecedented social change, and it’s about time we all recognized it. I’m happy to say that change has brought about choices, experiences and opportunities we are lucky and grateful to have and never take for granted. Many women in addition to being a mother, a wife, and a daughter, are also career women or running small businesses, blogging, are active in their communities, active within politics, and actively upgrading their educations.

There are some fundamental value decisions that women may have a different perspective on.

1. You have choices, take control of them

Many women were raised to believe that group consensus matters. They seek approval from their family and friend before major choices. Sadly, many give way to people they perceive as having more authority. What’s most important to understand that ultimately your life is your own responsibility. When choices are made they should reflect your values, not those of the people around you.

2. You don’t have to do everything

There are women who manage to balance a very successful career with bringing up several children and being a loving wife. Usually they succeed, simply because they love what they do. Not everyone is cut out for the corporate life nor being a high-powered business-woman. Focus on your children and bringing them up well. The work-life balance is a tricky one that is unique for each individual.

3. Speak out

It’s a sad fact that women were silenced for thousands of years. They wrote great literature that never got published. Many didn’t get an education, instead, they were sent out to work at a very young age. Many wrote classic works, and managed to make significant social changes. They still managed to get and use power effectively. We are the most educated and the most powerful that we have ever been.

We have finally begun to embrace the true meaning of diversity. We see diversity in the people who make decisions that affect us all. The group experiences are as varied as the people who are in them. The skill sets, and knowledge are vast, and therefore the resources a group has are more diverse and stronger. Many bring forth a unique history, a unique perspective, and unique guidance to offer.

If you have something to say, then say it. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Make suggestions for improvement. Be a mentor to other women – just for today tell someone that you matter, that your problems are important, and that your suggestions are valuable.

4. Listen and learn

Now more than ever we are at a turning point of human social evolution. Everything we as individuals do impacts the larger social organism. Equally, the larger social organism impacts every individual. If the United States declares war on a particular country, then every country has to deal with the aftermath – whether it is the refugees, or the economic downturn.

In reality, someone else’s problem is our problem. If we don’t help them create a solution that benefits everyone, then we may end up negatively impacted by their personal solution.

5. Don’t wait for someone else

Traditionally, it was men made major financial and life changing decisions within the family unit. If you want something, you have to take action to get it. It means deciding where your money goes. Work out what is important to you, and taking steps to achieve it. Equal opportunity and equal responsibility go hand in hand.

Listen to your body. It knows what it needs.

6. Eat Well

Food is a very fundamental part of our health and our social lives. The media acts very indifferently when it comes to how it talks about women and their body shapes. There are vast ranges of ideal weights and we are all not obese or anorexic. We all have a weight that is appropriate for us. Our weight is our happiness, our confidence and our personality.

Food is here to be enjoyed. It’s best to eat lots of varied foods, and exercise than it is to restrict calorie intake and remain sedentary. Best to aim for optimum health, not optimum weight.

Take Control of Your Future

take control of your future 300x256 Take Control of Your FutureKip Herriage wants you to take control of your future and your destiny. If you are not familiar with him he’s known as one of the premiere financial minds in the industry who went from Wall Street heavyweight to become the CEO and Co-Founder of WMI. He shares this powerful message with you today; “No one cares more about your career, about your family, about your health, about your money, and about your future than you!” He then follows up the statement with “Those that succeed will be those who take control of their destiny.”  These powerful statements shook me to my core, and from them I realized just where I was heading. Towards a rewarding life I truly love living.

Like so many that have come before us we all eventually come to the same conclusion; life is just too precious to waste. If you find yourself spending your days working at a job that isn’t deeply fulfilling to you, then you’re spending your days gathering dust. There’s no real value there. There’s not much that can fulfill you. It will only serve to distract you from living on purpose.

WMI provides this complete holistic approach to wealth, health and wisdom and this is going to empower you, your family and all those you care about so you can live the life of your dreams! What does it mean to really live? Deep down, you already have a sense of the direction where this answer lies for you. Ultimately, it’s a choice. You’re totally free to live the kind of life you want.

I’d love to share what has worked for me, and everyone’s life is different. So please keep in mind the following: Live for what is real to you. Live for what truly matters to you. What matters to me — what is real to me — is inspiring and helping other people. Sometimes I’m able to help them in a direct way but sometimes it’s in a more subtle or indirect way. When I can help someone solve a really tough problem or motivate someone to finally push past a big obstacle that’s hugely gratifying to me and always ranks high in terms of my life’s fulfillment. I love making money and I love writing, so if I’m able to help one person in a very small way that’s just like the icing on the cake.

As an entrepreneur I start each day doing something that fulfills me, and I’ve built this work into a business that can support and sustain me. When you do what you love every day and build it into a source of income you live an abundant life. Making money is aligned with my own personal fulfillment — they aren’t at odds with each other. If you do what you love, then you can surely find a way to turn it into an income stream — then the more money you make, the more you expand your capacity to continue doing what you love in bigger and bigger ways… like giving to the charities that near and dear to your heart.

Taking what I love to do and turning it into a source of income, as an entrepreneur, is the best feeling. If you’re going to spend so much time working to make money, why not make that money in the pursuit of your dreams?

For those of you who are currently in a job they don’t like what does your to do list look like? Is it filled with tasks that aren’t even real? Are you filling time with stuff that doesn’t matter, going to meetings that last forever and bore you to death?

Instead look at the tasks on your to do list that fulfill you. Rewrite your list and fill it with items that are real to you. This is the list I wrote years ago… Write something inspiring and share it with others. Clear out the clutter. Read a great book. Start my own business. Pay down my debt. Take a look at how I can improve my health. Get involved in my community and give more. Do something that leaves you feeling at the end of the day that you really contributed the best of yourself.

At WMI they are totally committed having a great existence on this planet, great family relationships, having great friendships, being a leader in your community, and having phenomenal health.
