Today’s modern world can be hectic and at times we can feel a touch out of balance unless we follow a holistic way of life. Many of us try to seek a balance everywhere. A balance in the power of our government, a balance of equality among races and different cultures, a balance between masculine and feminine, liberal and conservative. We wish to see change. However, the change we want to see in our world can only be made possible by balancing ourselves as individuals first. This is achieved through a balance of our body, mind, emotions & spirit. This is the healing we deserve to give ourselves. This is why I adopted the attitude to let it begin with me.

Many of us say “we have problems in America” that need to be addressed. Are these problems someone else’s problem? Don’t you just want someone to hurry up and fix them so that “we” can get on with our lives? Now is the time to truly realize that there is no “they” there is only “us”. We can fix the problems by bringing ourselves back into balance, first.

Living life in a truly healthy and holistic way requires all of us to look at ourselves from the inside out, to shift from our personal extreme viewpoints and radical opinions. It’s time to look at the way we are treating our minds and bodies. Let’s start by beginning to develop our knowledge into wisdom. Many have already made the shift from apathy and self-centeredness to developing a conscious awareness of others. What that truly means is the foundation of conscious, holistic living is a life lived in balance, where we release extremes of any kind.

How do we even know what balance looks and feels like? Do we picture perfection? We must learn to manage our expectations, as there is no such thing as perfection that only exists in nature. I discovered a number of years ago that a life in balance is not a life of “human perfection.” When I attuned myself to the perfection of the natural world and the natural universal laws I began to see huge shifts in the way I was thinking and then in the way I was feeling.

What inspires you to live more consciously? For me bringing my life into balance started from within with the choices I made. I had these words taped up on my fridge for the last 17 years and I’d reflect on what they were saying. I read them every day, not knowing what it would really mean as an outcome. Gandhi said “Your beliefs become your thoughts. Your thoughts become your words. Your words become your actions. Your actions become your habits. Your habits become your values. Your values become your destiny.” These words helped me to break out of the narrow box I’d created for myself.

Opportunities for change come in all shapes and sizes in life. Sometimes opportunities for change are brought about by a chronic illness, death or loss of a dream. Nonetheless they are often the catalyst for change. And change is good, as I have learned over time.

Life challenges can be the one thing that shakes up our world. And if we are smart and we listen carefully to the messages, it might just help guide us to help us live a healthier and more holistic lifestyle. This includes all dimensions of my being; my mind, my body, my spirit and the type of environment I choose to live in. By following this holistic path I have experienced improvements in my physical, spiritual and mental wellbeing that are so profound that years ago I would not have believed possible.

When I listen to WMI’s Deanna Latson speak to large audiences I truly smile. She’s had an definite impact on my life and countless others. Deanna’s philosophy is simple. Get healthy first, then get wealthy. It makes as much sense to me then as it does now.

Healthy Living and Holistic Health are at the core of her philosophy. She believes that they are the main building blocks to fulfilling your potential for living a happier and more satisfying life. Her story is inspirational and includes the information on dealing with a chronic illness, her recovery, holistic wealth, holistic living and how creating healthy lifestyles is the way to go.

The good news is that we can be in charge; we can create that healthy lifestyle through living holistically. We have the power to change our lives by choosing the right alternatives available to us all.
